In a significant stride towards women’s health and empowerment, Khadija Cares Foundation recently donated over 60 menstrual cups and 240 reusable pads to young ladies of the Fafali Organization, based in Accra. Menstrual cups and reusable pads; a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional menstrual products, have gained attention not only for their environmental benefits but also for their potential to improve access to menstrual hygiene in underserved communities. The recent donation underscores the importance of menstrual health and marks a promising step towards breaking down taboos and promoting women’s well-being.

Access to menstrual hygiene products is a major issue in Ghana, with thousands of women and girls facing challenges in managing their periods hygienically. In Ghana and many parts of Africa, period poverty remains prevalent in our societies, leading to inadequate access to clean and safe menstrual products. This lack of access can lead to health risks, absenteeism from school and work, and a perpetuation of gender inequality. The recent donation of menstrual cups and reusable pads serves as a beacon of hope in addressing these challenges.

While the recent donation is undoubtedly a positive step towards women’s health and empowerment, there’s still much work to be done. Khadija Cares Foundation is advocating for the sustainable solutions like menstrual cups need to be introduced and integrated into our communities, and ongoing efforts should prioritize education, access, and stigmatization. We hope to continue collaboration between NGOs, governments, and private sector partners who will play a crucial role in achieving lasting change in menstrual health and hygiene.
